The season of giving is upon us and ten A\u00ad\u00adscension Parish teachers will each receive a special gift \u2013 a $500 grant to fund inventive classroom curriculums for K-12 students.<\/p>\n<p>Through this annual grant program, Ascension Parish teachers are encouraged to think big and outside the box \u2013 submitting their grant narratives and ideas online via EATEL\u2019s \u201cReach-a-Kid, Teach-a-Kid\u201d portal. Teachers applying for funding are asked to share an idea to expand or create educational opportunities offered during the spring semester. This year, more than 500 students across ten classrooms will benefit from EATEL\u2019s \u201cReach-a-Kid, Teach-a-Kid\u201d grants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese grants are amazing examples of teachers creating unique and powerful opportunities to encourage and engage students,\u201d said Josh Descant, CEO of REV Broadband \u2013 the parent company of<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rtconline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RTC<\/a>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EATEL<\/a>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.viscom.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vision Communications<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>and<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.venyu.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VENYU<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cThe learning innovations revealed within these teachers\u2019 grant applications were all inspiring and are a reassurance that our young scholars are in excellent hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are grateful for our outstanding teachers who continually strive to enhance student learning and community partners like EATEL who make classroom innovations possible. Ascension Parish is the ultimate beneficiary of these teacher grant programs,&#8221; said David Alexander, Ascension Public Schools Superintendent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese educators are exceptional at thinking up interesting and new ways to interact with their students,\u201d said Monika Arnold, Community Relations and Business Development manager. \u201cAll of the applications are strong contenders with great initiatives. Narrowing the choices is critical and judging can be difficult, but our teammates at EATEL enjoy reading through and rewarding this community\u2019s well-deserving educators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Covering a large spectrum of students of all ages and abilities, this year\u2019s winners come from all over the parish. Winning programs ranged from creating mini libraries for little learners to challenge their minds, crafting calm down centers for those who need a moment to catch their breath and mapping out math problems with a fidget fix known as Pop-its! Some applicant-educators focused their energy on English Language Arts (ELA) while others leaned on the experiential elements, metrics and health sciences of cooking. Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) projects continued to be popular and supported creative learning through Micro:bits, computer sciences and paleontology\/fossil kits.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Abby Jones \u2013<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u201cReading Powers Activate!\u201d (Lowery Middle School)<\/li>\n<li><b>Amanda Martinez<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 \u201cRock It! Polka Dot It!\u201d (Lake Elementary School)<\/li>\n<li><b>Brinsley Nunez<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 \u201cLet\u2019s Get Cooking!\u201d (East Ascension High School)<\/li>\n<li><b>Carla Babin<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 \u201cAll the Right Ingredients\u201d (Gonzales Middle School)<\/li>\n<li><b>Cassie Millet<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 \u201cLittle Learners Imagination Libraries\u201d (Sorrento Primary School)<\/li>\n<li><b>Jennifer Dixon<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 \u201cGet on Board with Great Behavior!\u201d (Bluff Middle School)<\/li>\n<li><b>Melanie Guillory<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 \u201cHooray for ELA!\u201d (Spanish Lake Primary School)<\/li>\n<li><b>Melinda McCleskey<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 \u201cSupporting Future Computer Programmers with Micro:bits\u201d (Galvez Primary)<\/li>\n<li><b>Michelin Bertin<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 \u201cWhat Do the Fossils Say?\u201d (Prairieville Middle School)<\/li>\n<li><b>Rachel McDowell<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 \u201cCreating a Calm Down Center\u201d (Central Middle School)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For over 20 years, EATEL\u2019s \u201cReach-a-Kid, Teach-a-Kid\u201d program has made awards totaling over $100,000 \u2013 opening the doors to creative thinking for K-12 students and teachers.
